Where to draw the line

With everything on the net these days from: "Make millions blogging from home", "Create massive income doing nothing but pressing a button", "Put your MLM on auto drive and make no human contact", and the list goes on and on. First of all if you are going to put your MLM on auto drive and make no human contact, why would you want to do MLM in the first place? Yes there are certainly tools out there that will help you build your business and I am proud proponent of these tools. But there is a lot of garbage out there as well. How do you know what to do? All I can say is I get hit up by every Tom, Dick, and Harry about the next greatest opportunity to hit the planet every time I am on the computer. They all seem exciting at the time, but unfortunately most are just nothing but complete trash. But even worse they distract me from staying focused on my business activities. So where do you draw the line?

Unlike Randy Gage one of my idols, I do believe you can do more than 1 MLM as I know many who do successfully. But you should read your Legal agreement with your parent company. If you do decide to tread water into another MLM, you should have 1 MLM that is your baby. You really don't want to spread yourself too thin with your time. Time is precious and you certainly don't want to look at every program that comes across your desk, as this will cause you to lose focus. The truth is yeah you may get lucky, but for most of us, you are going to have to really stay focused to make it in MLM. So again, where do you draw the line?

Here is where you draw the line? If you already feel overwhelmed with what you've got going on, simply don't take on any more, or leverage your time. There is no sense in burning yourself out to achieve true riches. I personally only read emails that look interesting, or if they are from people I know. You might even consider only checking your emails once or twice daily. I don't have valuable time to waste on looking at every email I get. I also make sure I have caller ID on my phone and only pick up the phone if I am familar with who is calling me. If you work out of your house like me, make sure you have a separate work space and let your wife and kids know that when the door is closed you are not to be bothered. My six year old is so bad with that rule, while I was on a conference call this evening, I had to put a chair under the knob of the door to keep him out.

In closing, there are alot of great programs out there, and everyone thinks their program is the greatest. And with so many distractions, its a wonder I actually can ever work 6 to 8 hours a day. So simply put, just work like yours is the greatest and draw the line, so you don't become too distracted. As the famous Ray Kroc once said, "Mind Your Own Business".

John, I think you were talking about me. I joined too many groups and have started weeding out the contacts who send too much info and/or seem annoying. It is good to have someone who has "gone on before."

Oh, your kids are little! I wondered who I heard in the background at first. Once a mother, you always pick out children's voices to make sure you aren't needed by your child. (and mine are in their thirties!)

Thank you once more for your valuable insight!

I have been in MLM since the 80's and have always focused on my primary business. That said, I do have other accounts with MLM businesses that have great products that are: 1. Something I really like and use, and 2. Are not in direct competition with products in my primary MLM.

It makes sense to me that if you believe your product is the best and promote it as such, if you don't use it first, you are a liar. But it also is apparent to me that if you believe in the concept that the best products come from an MLM base, when you see a good product that fills your needs, you buy it first from an MLM company. Many business have preferred customer status that won't mess with your contract in your primary business. We are all in this business of MLM together. If we support each other it can do nothing but good. There is an old axiom that "A rising tide raises all ships." Lets support each other.

PS. I take calls from call centers because the poor guy or gal on the other end of the line is not making much money but has the guts to call strangers. What a great concept!
